ABOUT THIS PROJECT

Lawyers call it job. Thieves call it barrier. Cops call it boss, some others call it oppression, others help, others limit and some others just call it unnecessary.

Is it something different for the artists? For the works of art? For the viewer?

Dogma, rule, law, order. A (silly?) experiment for the arts, using the concept of the law, its institution and finally its artistic realization.

Does the work of art have to be liquid? Is music forbidden in the exhibition spaces? Does someone have to cut his nails first in order to produce a work of art?

No one can answer that.

By making rules and obeying blindly to them everything gets simpler and more right and especially when these rules are made and followed by the institutionalizes themselves. It gets though more complex when it comes to the field of fine arts.

Until the 25-05-2010 we are waiting for ideas and each idea will be more than welcome, it will become a law! The result of the experiment kanon… which means the works of art that will be produced based on the 12 voted rules will be presented in simultaneous expositions on the 19th of june 2010.

Οι δικηγόροι το λενε δουλειά. Οι κλέφτες το λένε εμπόδιο. Οι αστυνομικοί το λένε αφεντικό, άλλοι το λένε καταπίεση, άλλοι βοήθεια, άλλοι όριο και κάποιοι άλλοι το χαρακτηρίζουν απλά περιττό. Για τους καλλιτέχνες είναι κάτι διαφορετικό; για τα έργα τέχνης; για τον θεατή; Δόγμα, κανόνας, νόμος, εντολή.

Ένα (ανόητο;) πείραμα για τις τέχνες με υλικά την έννοια του νόμου, τη θέσπιση του και τελικά, την εικαστική πραγμάτωσή του. Το έργο τέχνης πρέπει να είναι υγρό; Απαγορεύεται η μουσική στους εκθεσιακούς χώρους; Για να κάνει κάποιος ένα έργο τέχνης πρέπει οπωσδήποτε να έχει κόψει τα νύχια του πρώτα; Κανείς δεν μπορεί να ξέρει. Όλα γίνονται πιο απλά και σωστότερα με τη θέσπιση κανόνων και την τυφλή υπακοή τους, και ειδικά όταν αυτοί έχουν επιλεγεί και ακολουθούνται από τους ίδιους τους θεσμοθέτες τους.

Τα πράγματα όμως περιπλέκονται στο (ελεύθερο;) πεδίο των εικαστικών τεχνών. Μέχρι τις (25-05-2010) περιμένουμε ιδέες και κάθε ιδέα θα είναι κάτι περισσότερο από ευπρόσδεκτη.. θα γίνει νόμος! Το αποτέλεσμα του πειράματος kanon 8.0... δηλαδή τα έργα που θα έχουν φτιαχτεί με βάση του επιλεγμένους κανόνες θα παρουσιαστεί στις 19-06-2010.

RULES ABOUT VIEWERS

01 __

During the exhibition it is forbidden to wave or talk to anybody, either you are the artist or the viewer. There will be supervisor.

02 __

The viewers and the artists have to beat themselves when they are not obeying the rules (if they don't do it themselves, someone else will).

03 __

The viewers are not allowed to criticise the works during their stay in the exhibition room. They can only communicate by gestures.

04 __

On sundays and on holidays the rules above will be valid.

05 __

No person is allowed to enter the exhibition space wearing a watch. All watches will be collected in the entrance and returned by the time you are leaving.

06 __

Simple viewers

-I stand opposite to the artwork in a distance six times bigger than its height and I watch it for one or two minutes.

-Slowly I go closer, to one third of the previous distance and I repeat.

-Carefully I go closer, as much as the conditions allow me to and I watch the details and the technique for six minutes, trying not to think about anything. In the case of an artwork that can be seen perimetrically I make three circles around it moving simultaneously clockwise.

-Finally I read the title and I withdraw to reconsider it for three minutes before moving to the next.

07 __

Art lovers, collectors, hobbists

-After I get the catalogue with the prices of the artworks I choose the one that is a bit more expensive than the amount I want to spend and I bargain it with the gallerist.

-After I get the artwork to my place I can follow the rule of the simple people in order to decide for its installation.

-I invite friends to show them my new acquirement.

08 __

Artists, theoreticians, art historians

-Moving as fast as the existing crowding allows me to, I cross all the space of the exhibition room throwing quick glances to the artworks.

-I find friends to continue the discussion from the previous exhibition.

-It's proposed to be dressed in total black.

-While talking I keep my eyes closed and my head high.

09 __

Indiscreetness is not allowed. That concerns the artists, the artworks and the viewers.

10 __

Please mind the gap between the train and the platform.

11 __

The artist, the artwork and the viewer must be naked or semi naked (only with sun-glasses)

12 __

The viewer must be able to distinguish a cake made to be eatten from a cake made to be thrown directly against someone's face..

13 __

The viewer should be encouraged by this to build his/her own opinion on the artwork and feel free to express it somehow, and the artist should never forget to be honest.

14 __

Explanatory texts that often accompany the artworks and the exhibitions are forbidden.

15 __

The viewer must not avoid to do his job (read the work) and say his opinion about it (if he wants to).

16 __

Stupidity knows intelligence asks.

17 __

The viewer's zodiac has to be the aquarius.

RULES ABOUT ARTISTS

01 ++

The artist during the exhibition has to wear his/her mother's underwear apparently.

02 ++

Put your favorite sock instead of your name next to your work.

03 ++

The artist must make a mask out of his face, which he must wear on the back of his head all the time while creating his work.

04 ++

During the exhibtion all the artists have to wear a mask which they make on their own that will cover their face above the mouth.

05 ++

In case that an artist likes (due to his apparence, clothes, style etc.) a viewer whichever his gender is, he/she has to tell him/her and ask his/her permission to kiss him/her as a lover. After a possible rejection, he/she has to ask his/her permission to kiss him/her as a friend. If there is a second rejection to his/her proposal, then he/she has to make him/her a gift that he/she will create himself/herself on which he/she will write his/her name and phone number.

06 ++

The artist has to hug all the viewers without any distinctions and suspensions.

07 ++

The artist must be honest.

08 ++

-I eat organic products, fish every tuesday and meat every friday and sunday.

-I sleep six hours per night supinely and three hours at noon always on one side.

-I watch the news and at least three public emissions I have chosen in the TV.

-I only wear Camper shoes.

Research and application (inside) and outside of the human.

Faith in everything that is proved rationally and is evident in action.

10 ++

The artist, when he/she will be asked, has to tell the name of someone who once cured him/her from bad-eye energy..

Should be a hopeless, not a homeless and a bit of holeless...........

It is forbidden to the artists to give explanations to the viewers about the artworks.

13 ++

The birthday law: on the birthday and the day after the birthday, each artist officially employed to work somewhere has a day off work. Additionally, the friends of the specific artist can submit forms requesting half day off on the day after the birthday.

The artists' names have to include the letter A.

RULES ABOUT ARTWORKS (voting list)

01//

The artwork has to highlight the most important thing that the artist has to say.

Which also means exactly what he tries to cover.

In other words, the artworks has to be empty and be presented inside-out. As far as paintings are involved, the canvas must be stitched on the board so that what is exposed is their back side.

02//

Every work that concerns the height (either as a concept or due to its physical height) has to be presented horizontally and with a measure by side.

03//

Blow as strong as you can and then retch, spilt and the birthday cake is ready. You must do the same thing for your artwork.

04//

The soap does not go off, even when you wash a black-skinned man (inspired by a greek proverb ), so soap has to be necessary element of the work (brand-new soap) and be cooked.

05//

Every sound art work has to include cough (either its sound or its definition, etc.)

06//

Take a photo of a strange thing that happens around you (for example two pigeons fucking in the house opposite to yours, looking like one), watch it well, then make your work that will include an apple if it is 3D, pink colour if it is painting and mmmmmms if it is a sound. In the exhibition place your photo on the level of your eyes, together with the work.

07//

Flat artworks (paintings, carpets, tapisseries, videos etc.)

-I use colours that I have produced on my own, out of rocks I have collected myself, with tools I have made myself, in olive oil made out of olives I have collected myself. Or I buy them.

-The biggest artwork must not be bigger than the triple size of the smallest.

-The range of the colours I use in each artwork has to include their complementary colour for the balance of the body (of the artwork) and the soul (Ours).

08//

3D works (sculptures, installations, 3D videos etc.)

-Greek sculptors are not allowes to use colour.

-The materials have to "be combined".

-References to ancient Greece have to walk along with left-wing political hints of the concept

-After I decide the idea of the artwork I give it to someone to construct it.

-If I use screens for projection they have to be many and big.

The artwork is a machine. Like every machine it has to be composed by some elements at least: A power source, a set of connections (circuits, cables), an active operation (work).

every artwork must apply to these elements.

10//

Actions (theatre, performances, interactive etc.)

-I keep the rules of gentleness towards the viewers. I do not spilt, revile, scream and I generally avoid every action that would bring them in a difficult place.

-If VIPs are assisted I bring to them seats and heat.

-I offer snacks and drinks after the show.

The artwork has to taste like chocolate.

The artwork has to made out of fur.

13//

The work must incorporate some of the artist's hair.

The artwork must be able to be exposed at the same place that once a Christmas tree was being burned, at a square in front of a parliament..

15//

The artwork should not be accompanied by explanatory texts

16//

Art must not be decoration, even if some art works have some decorative sides.

17//

Explanatory texts that often accompany the artworks and the exhibitions are forbidden.

18//

An artwotk that worths can stand on its own.

19//

An artwork has to address to many people and be understood by few.

20//

Each work sized over 37 cm in length, should be enlongated, pointing northwards. If not, the artist should place in the right opposite side a photoportait of his mother in a sleeping state and wet his hands in cold water exactly every 7 minutes.

21//

An artwork should be able to overcode the physical and the imaginary, building each time it's own ontology about space-time-energy-being. For examining this the artist has to showhis/her piece to friends and start a dialogue where the artist try to ask questions about the artwork.

22//

An artwork must decode: the state abstract machine, the viewers and the artists.

23//

An artwork must be builded in such way it can be easyly and low-cost copied and shared. This applies to every form of method used.

24//

The artwork is meaningful only when it twists onwards and by side.

25//

The artwork has to be something that has happened before.
